Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed Argentine midfielder David Ayala from the Portland Timbers. This strategic move is part of MLS’s U22 Initiative, aimed at strengthening the club’s midfield depth. Ayala, who is 23 years old, will be under contract with Inter Miami through the end of the 2026 Major League Soccer season. He joins the club after a successful stint with the Timbers, where he played from 2022 to 2025, and has prior experience with Club Estudiantes de La Plata in Argentina’s Primera División from 2019 to 2022. Born in Berazategui, Argentina, Ayala made his professional debut at just 17 years old, quickly becoming a standout player in his youth system. During his time in Argentina’s top flight, he made 33 appearances, which garnered him international attention and led to his move to MLS. At Portland, Ayala developed into a key contributor, recording 22 appearances in his first season and totaling 98 appearances, four goals, and two assists by the end of the 2025 campaign. He will now begin his journey with Inter Miami CF alongside familiar faces, including defender Facundo Mura and Head Coach Javier Mascherano. Ayala has also represented Argentina at various youth national team levels, contributing to their success in the 2019 South American U-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
